Deep South CFB playoff isn’t sustainable

The college football playoff selection committee foolishly gave a midseason report Tuesday night and in doing so, took a swift step toward an eight-team playoff.

Here are your four teams for the inaugural playoff if the season ended today: Mississippi State, Florida State, Auburn and Ole Miss.

This won’t be the final foursome, given the games remaining between this incestuous bunch and those on the fringe, including Michigan State, which sits nearby at No. 8 in the eyes of the 12-member committee.

The selection process may wind up putting together a fair and interesting bracket in early December. And this initial sketch, which never should have been shared, isn’t unfair at the top. But it gave most of the country a glimpse of what it doesn’t want — a bracket entirely of Deep South football arrogance. - Read more at LSJ.com
