Rutgers coach Flood cites MSU as model
Of the two Big Ten newcomers coming Michigan State’s way in consecutive weeks, Rutgers is more of a Big Ten team — or at least the traditional, MSU-preferred definition of a Big Ten team.
The Scarlet Knights want to line up and run with power to set up the play-action pass, they want to play physical defense, and coach Kyle Flood said Monday that MSU and Iowa are two programs that serve as models for his. When MSU coach Mark Dantonio arrived eight years ago, he cited Iowa and Wisconsin as his models.
“I admire coach Dantonio and what he’s done and how he’s taken that program to the next level,” Flood said at his weekly news conference. “I think those are probably two good examples of programs that have found a way to get the right people into their program … philosophically, they know who they want to be, and they’re consistent with it.
