Up to the Minute:

Countdown to “Flash Point” — Seven Days

So Michigan Interim AD Jim Hackett referenced the “flash point” in terms of deciding the fate of Brady Hoke during a press conference I attended prior to the Michigan-Maryland game. So – obvious to all of us — that “flash point” is a mere 7 days away. A week from today I trust will be the “announcement” after the Wolverines will likely be licking their wounds following a 5-7 debacle of a season (not beating one single team with a winning record) and another setback to dreaded Ohio State.

And btw, it’s “Ohio State” – not “Ohio.” Ohio is Ohio University in Athens – you are not playing the Bobcats. I friggin hate that – pisses me off — and never understood that. Shoot, Bo always referred to Ohio State as “Ohio State.” Shouldn’t that be good enough for ya.

I truly hope/expect the Wolverines to play hard against the Buckeyes and will be disappointed if they don’t. Will they win? No. For a lot of reasons – but the main reason is this – they will turn the ball over. I will be shocked if it doesn’t happen at least twice – and “twice” is two times too many against a solid unit like OSU.

Back to the “Flash Point” – the dismissal of Brady Hoke. Once that happens, to “interim AD” Hackett and the search committee, all Michigan alums and fans challenge you to “get it right.” And “getting it right” is landing a “tough-minded coach” who holds his players accountable for actions on and off the field. And I am hoping for a coach where we Michigan fans don’t follower the progress of his players via “police reports” instead of box scores. And I want a Michigan team that displays a little more “pain” when they do lose. I just cannot get the image of the joking/smiling that was all too prevalent on the Michigan sideline in South Bend in the waning moments of a 31-0 thumping to Notre Dame the second game of the season. That mere vision alone told me it was going to be a “long season.” Damn, It just can’t end fast enough.
