40 years later, MSU doesn’t need Notre Dame

EAST LANSING Nearly 40 seasons have passed since the basketball programs at Michigan State and Notre Dame played each other in anything but a coerced game.

Two major conference schools, football rivals for more than three generations, less than three hours drive apart — and not a single scheduled meeting since 1975.
