You “crushed it” Jim Hackett !!!
OK, Jim Hackett, I commend you. You absolutely “crushed it” during the Brady Hoke “firing presser” at Crisler on Tuesday. You were unflappable and “corporate silky smooth” yet sincere. You said all the right things about “not cutting corners” (in your search) and were cleverly metaphoric with your reference to “swim lanes” concerning the search strategy. You were incredibly respectful to your “hero” who you just terminated, and most of all, you blew up the “Michigan Man” label when reporter Jennifer Hammond served you up a slow pitch softball on the subject of that moniker. Over the fence, you hammered it. Thank God, that has disappeared into the left field seats
Nice work!
So now it is on to Step 2 – landing that perfect head football coach. I will declare without hesitation – and without fear of being accused of consumed with the football ingredient – this is THE most important Human Resource “hire” in the nearly 200-year history of the University of Michigan. Dead serious when I say it because there is nothing more relevant than the invaluable “front porch” an elite college football program can bring to its school – image wise, revenue wise, and “feel good” wise for fans/alumni/potential students and let’s not forget “top notch football recruits.”
So, Jim Hackett, whether your ultimate pick is Jim Harbaugh, Les Miles, Butch Jones, Bob Stoops, Kevin Sumlin, David Shaw, Dan Mullen, Gary Patterson, David Cutcliffe, Bret Bielema, Mark Richt, etc, etc, etc, blah, blah, blah…just make sure you “Crush It” with the selection. Get it right!
Because as I speak from a fan/alumni perspective who lives/works in East Lansing surrounded in a sea of Green & White increasingly pompous/passionate Spartan fans – I flat-out just can’t take this shit anymore!!! (Again, dead serious)
