Michigan State closed the first half on a 30-11 run. The later stages of that stretch helped MSU survive Georgia’s early second-half rally and a dicey final minute. But the game changed early and improbably — just after Branden Dawson sat down for the rest of the first half with his second foul. At the time, MSU trailed 11-5 with more than 14 minutes remaining and the Spartans had missed eight of their first 10 shots. Marvin Clark Jr., Dawson’s replacement, was the offensive jolt MSU needed. He scored immediately on a driving left-handed layup and it seemed to take the lid off the basket for his teammates.
