Up to the Minute:

NFL Commissioner Rodger Goodell’s Comments on Adrian Peterson

Wednesday afternoon, at a press conference at the annual NFL Owners Meetings in Arizona, Commissioner Roger Goodell was asked about the reinstatement of Adrian Peterson and the timetable that has been placed by the league. Goodell was also asked as to whether or not Peterson would be placed back on the ‘exempt list’ and removed from the ‘suspended list’. Goodell said, “We’re going to continue the evaluation. We’ll have our people, and I will expect to meet with Adrian before we make the final determination on his status.”

The original timetable established by the commissioner’s office back in November was April 15th. According to Rodger Goodell, that date is still relevant as he answered questions about the date saying that, “We expect to keep that timetable.”

The NFL released a statement back in February about Adrian Peterson and his status;

Judge Doty’s order did not contain any determinations concerning the fairness of the appeals process under the CBA, including the commissioner’s longstanding authority to appoint a designee to act as hearing officer. Even so, we believe strongly that Judge Doty’s order is incorrect and fundamentally at odds with well-established legal precedent governing the district court’s role in reviewing arbitration decisions. As a result, we have filed a notice of appeal to have the ruling reviewed by the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals. In the interim, Adrian Peterson will be returned to the Commissioner Exempt List pending further proceedings by appeals officer Harold Henderson or a determination by the Eighth Circuit Court.

Adrian Peterson is expected to remain with the Minnesota Vikings this coming season as reports are saying there are no other current options on the table at this time.
