Scouting report: Why MSU will beat Louisville in Elite 8

Free Press sports writer Joe Rexrode scouts Sunday’s East Regional final between No. 7 seed MSU and No. 4 seed Louisville (2:20 p.m., CBS):

Backcourts

Freshman Quentin Snider stepped up after the dismissal of Chris Jones and is doing a solid job at the point. But this backcourt is all about Terry Rozier. The 6-foot sophomore is an incredible athlete – witness his 14 rebounds in Friday’s win over N.C. State – who finishes creatively at the rim and spearheads the press when Louisville goes with it. The only MSU player who seems to match up defensively with him is freshman Lourawls (Tum Tum) Nairn, who struggled Friday and only played 11 minutes. Count on him playing much more Sunday. Travis Trice is one of the stories of this tournament, and Denzel Valentine was huge Friday. He’ll match up with reliable 6-5 senior Wayne Blackshear.
