Earvin “Magic” Johnson is only one of many Lansing School District alumni worth celebrating. But he might be the only one whose mere presence suggests hope in an environment mired in decline.

Lansing’s favorite son is coming home to champion the Lansing Promise and headline the quasi-public launch of the city’s fledgling college scholarship program.
