Earvin “Magic” Johnson returns home to promote the Lansing Promise
Earvin “Magic” Johnson came back home to Lansing Thursday to speak on behalf of, and raise money for the Lansing Promise Scholarship program. Prior to the fundraising dinner, Johnson spoke to reporters about the event, the value of education and what the Lansing Promise will mean to future generations. You can listen and share that audio below:
A statement from Johnson about the Lansing Promise: Since 2012, Lansing Promise has been able to provide more than a half million dollars in scholarship support to hundreds of deserving students in the Lansing School District. These efforts are helping build better lives for students in the Lansing School District and are critical in providing students a head start in life beyond high school.
The education that I received at Main Street Elementary, Dwight Rich Junior High, and Everett High School was an important factor in my ability to succeed. My teachers and mentors helped me to achieve success in athletics and in business. It’s my hope that more young people in Lansing will have similar opportunities to get ahead in life. Lansing Promise offers them that hope!
