B1G notes: Most schools favor early football signing period

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Imagine, Michigan State fans, all these football verbal commitments being able to sign early so there’d be less chance of a Caleb Swanigan situation — the former MSU basketball commitment who is now a Purdue pledge.

An early signing period in football is closer to reality than ever before, and there’s a “super majory” in the Big Ten favoring it, Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith said Tuesday from the Big Ten’s spring meetings. The Collegiate Commissioners Association, which governs national letters of intent, said in January it favors mid-December for an early signing period and will vote in June. - Read more at Freep.com
