Couch: FIFA raid a momentous shift for U.S. soccer
I found myself strangely captivated by the FIFA presidential election Friday. It’s how I imagine The Sopranos if it had aired on C-SPAN.
A man I cared little about two weeks ago, Sepp Blatter, had become the center of corruption in my piddly universe. Why? Because soccer is creeping further into my soul.
Same goes for much of the rest of our sporting nation.
Years from now, we’ll look back at this week’s U.S.-prompted raid of FIFA’s headquarters in Switzerland as part of a momentous shift in our emotional investment in soccer.
