Eating For Health – The Importance Of Nutrient Balance
In the human body, food is any material consumed in order to provide necessary nutrients for organisms to survive. Food is generally of animal, plant or fungi origin, and is rich in essential nutrients, including vitamins, proteins, fats, carbohydrates and minerals. Humans need a large amount of food to satisfy their body requirements and maintain their physical well being. If humans do not have sufficient food, they will become malnourished, leading to a host of medical, mental and other health problems. Food is classified into three main categories: animal food, plant food, and fungi food.
Animal food refers to any food that you eat that is made by animals; this may include milk, meat, eggs and fish. Fungi food, on the other hand, refers to any food that humans eat that is made by fungi, including cheeses, pickles, sausages, mushrooms, tea and coffee. While most people eat some form of animal or fungi food on a daily basis, a balanced and healthy diet is only achieved when you eat a well-balanced mixture of all three types of food.
A diet that is high in carbohydrates, protein, vitamins and minerals, combined with a small amount of fibre will provide you with a healthy, energy-rich diet. Carbohydrates are found in foods such as breads, cereals, pasta and potatoes. Proteins are found in meats, poultry, fish and eggs. Vitamins are found in vegetables, fruits, whole grains and dairy products. Fungi on the other hand contain essential nutrients that our bodies need in order to remain healthy and disease free.
