It was supposed to be vindication. About 10 years ago, then-Michigan coach Lloyd Carr went on a Lansing sports talk show hosted by Fred Heumann and got into the “Ian Gold incident” of 1999. Carr told Heumann that a Lansing State Journal reporter “completely made up” quotes by Gold a few days in advance of No. 11 MSU’s 34-31 win over No. 3 Michigan at Spartan Stadium.

Completely made up. That’s the first time anyone had ever made that claim, or at least that’s the first time I had heard it. But I guess that’s how exaggerated stories can get over the years. - Read more at Freep.com
