Ohio State coach Urban Meyer says Michigan State a ‘great team,’ but not a rival
EAST LANSING — Ohio State coach Urban Meyer made it clear during his Monday press conference that he holds Michigan State in high regard, but that doesn’t make the Spartans a rival.
Meyer indicated the Buckeyes have only one rival, and he doesn’t anticipate that changing regardless of how big his team’s games with MSU have been of late.
Michigan State (7-1, 4-0 Big Ten) hosts Ohio State (7-1, 4-0) at 8 p.m. Saturday at Spartan Stadium in a game that likely will decide the Big Ten’s East Division and looks to have College Football Playoff implications.
“We have one rival here,” said Meyer, referring to the University of Michigan before talking about Michigan State. “What’s happened in this situation is you have an excellent team, after watching them on film, they’re a great team, and they stand in the way of the Big Ten championship.
