Up to the Minute:

100 Days, 100 Detroit Lions: #73 Louis Delmas

In this edition of 100 Days, 100 Detroit Lions, we honor former Lion who, when healthy, is a major force on the field.

73. Louis Delmas

Safety. 2009-2013, Detroit; 2014 Miami Dolphins

A native of Fort Pierce, Florida, Louis Delmas played college football at Western Michigan before the Lions picked him in the second-round (33rd overall) in the 2009 NFL Draft. In his first NFL start, week one of his rookie season, he returned a fumble 65-yards for a touchdown against the New Orleans Saints. He finished his rookie season with 94 tackles (65 solo), 1 sack, 2 interceptions, 8 passes defended and 1 fumble recovery. Delmas became the first rookie, and only second player, in NFL history to return an interception and fumble for a touchdown and score a safety in the same season. He was named a Pro Bowl alternate after the 2010 and 2011 seasons. Injuries hampered his Lions career in later seasons, prompting the Lions to release him after the 2013 season.
