MSU basketball becomes Denzel Valentine’s show

EAST LANSING — Denzel Valentine pretended he didn’t hear Tom Izzo screaming his name from across the court.

Valentine had a committed a needless turnover in an exhibition game, the sort of turnover that sometimes plagued his first two seasons at Michigan State.

“Denzel!” Izzo yelled one more time, finally drawing eye contact. Valentine jogged over, listened for no more than three seconds, patted his coach on the chest mid-sentence and jogged away.
