Position breakdown: Scales tip in Michigan State’s favor, but Maryland brings speed to the table
COLLEGE PARK, Md. — First-year Big Ten member Maryland represents a different kind of animal than Michigan State has become accustomed to seeing in the conference, with coach Randy Edsall’s Terrapins featuring good speed and a multitude of offensive and defensive sets.
From a talent standpoint, Maryland (6-3, 3-2 Big Ten) would seem to measure up to the No. 12-ranked Spartans (7-2, 4-1) at many of the skill positions, but it lacks Michigan State’s depth along the line of scrimmage.
As much as anything, the psyche of the teams has been broken down. There has been a good deal of speculation about how the Spartans might respond after having their College Football Playoff and Big Ten title hopes dashed by Ohio State in last Saturday’s 49-37 Buckeyes win at Spartan Stadium.
