Citrus offers MSU best possible bowl matchup

EAST LANSING – Goals are very important and, to some, so are bowls.

Both are driving the Michigan State Spartans through the East Coast holiday portion of their schedule, which should end Saturday at Penn State in a third straight easy win. That would leave the Spartans 10-2 with their fourth double-digit-win season in five years, and right in the mix to qualify for the new “it” lineup of bowls.

MSU, No. 11 in the College Football Playoff rankings, won’t be in the playoff. So the Spartans are talking about the next-best thing, the four CFP bowls not involved in the semifinals — the Orange, Fiesta, Cotton and Peach.

“We talk about it. … We know what we’re working for,” sophomore linebacker Riley Bullough said Saturday after the <FZ,1,0,12>Spartans followed up a 37-15 win at Maryland with a 45-3 Senior Day stomping of Rutgers. “We want to be … in one of those other four big bowl games.
