Michigan State 45, Rutgers 3: Seniors get nice send-off

EAST LANSING – Rutgers as an addition to the Big Ten remains to be judged, but Michigan State has to like the Scarlet Knights as visitors on senior day.

The No. 10 Spartans blew out Rutgers, 45-3, today at dreary, cold, wet Spartan Stadium in front of an announced (but not actual) crowd of 70,902. And that helped Mark Dantonio have as much fun as possible paying tribute to a senior class that now has 40 wins.

“Yeah, it’s emotional,” Dantonio said of what he called “Chapter 1” of a farewell tour, to be followed by the season finale at Penn State and an undetermined bowl game.

Running back Jeremy Langford did his thing for MSU (9-2, 6-1 Big Ten), running 16 times for 126 yards and two touchdowns, extending his school-record streak to 15 straight games against Big Ten teams with 100-plus yards.

“It meant a lot to me, especially the way my career started,” said Langford, who has more than 2,600 rushing yards in the past two seasons after trying different positions in his first three. - Read more at Freep.com
