Michigan State’s run as best Big Ten defense might soon end

The best defense in the Big Ten?

“Michigan State” used to be an easy answer to that question, and those who haven’t paid close attention to this season or studied the statistics closely might still think it’s the Spartans.

After all, coordinator Pat Narduzzi’s units ranked No. 1 in the Big Ten in total defense the previous three seasons, as well as within the nation’s top six.

But anyone who has followed the Spartans this season knows the defense has not been there to answer the bell in the biggest games of the year — at Oregon (46-27) and against Ohio State (49-37).
