Grantland Rice Super 16 poll: Alabama replaces Florida State at No. 1, Michigan State holds No. 10 spot
EAST LANSING — Michigan State stayed at No. 10 in the FWAA-NFF Grantland Rice Super 16 poll on Monday, but there was a change atop the rankings.
Alabama (10-1) moved past unbeaten Florida State (11-0) for the top spot in the poll. Oregon is No. 3, Mississippi State is No. 4 and TCU is in the No. 5 position.
The Spartans (9-2, 6-1 Big Ten) play at Penn State (6-5, 2-5) at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in both teams’ regular-season finale.
Michigan State beat Rutgers 45-3 last Saturday and moved past Ole Miss in the poll this week. But the Spartans were also passed in the rankings, as UCLA jumped from No. 11 to No. 9 on the heels of a 38-20 win over Southern Cal.
Michigan State is ranked between No. 8 and No. 15 on all 41 ballots of the Grantland Rice Super 16 voters.
Michigan State is ranked No. 8 in this week’s Amway Coaches Poll and No. 10 in the AP Top 25. Last Tuesday, the Spartans came in at No. 11 in the College Football Playoff selection committee rankings.
