Spartans will play on bigger stage in Cotton Bowl
EAST LANSING – Plans had been made, rooms purchased, the beach put on notice — Michigan State was going to Miami to play in the Orange Bowl.
That’s how it looked late Saturday night, anyway. MSU junior defensive end Shilique Calhoun had arranged to hang out with a former MSU teammate and Miami native, Juwan Caesar. MSU’s athletic communications department had given reporters information on a Sunday teleconference to preview the Orange Bowl, involving MSU coach Mark Dantonio and Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson.
