EAST LANSING – The Big Ten will have a news conference today at New York’s Madison Square Garden, presumably to announce what Sports Illustrated reported over the weekend — that the 2018 Big Ten men’s basketball tournament will take place in that building.

That will follow a 2017 trip to Washington for the tournament, part of Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany’s East Coast push. The difference is, the Big Ten tournament in 2018 will have to be played a week early because the Big East will have MSG for its tournament during the normal weekend for conference tournaments.
