MSU fan Gus Penning goes from Grand Rapids CC to Baylor TE

Gus Penning contributed to the roar that swept through Spartan Stadium late on the night of Oct. 22, 2011, after Michigan State receiver Keith Nichol grabbed a Hail Mary pass from Kirk Cousins and muscled past the goal line to beat Wisconsin at the buzzer.

MSU fandom had never been better for Penning, who wore out a Charles Rogers jersey as a kid playing pickup football in Jenison, and who also fondly recalls attending a 2007 comeback win over Penn State — earning a bowl bid in Mark Dantonio’s first season as head coach — on his 15th birthday.
