MSU’s Allen, McDowell named Freshman All-America
EAST LANSING – Michigan State earned significant contributions from a pair of freshmen in the trenches in 2014, and both of them were named Freshman All-Americans on Wednesday by the Football Writers Association of America.
Offensive guard Brian Allen and defensive tackle Malik McDowell made No. 5 MSU (11-2) the only Big Ten team with multiple honorees. And this makes eight times out of the past nine seasons that the Spartans have had someone on the FWAA Freshman All-America team – kicker Michael Geiger and offensive tackle in Jack Conklin (2013), offensive lineman Jack Allen in 2012, defensive end Marcus Rush in 2011, defensive tackle Jerel Worthy in 2009, offensive guard Joel Foreman in 2008, linebacker Greg Jones in 2007 and kicker Brett Swenson in 2006. - Read more at Freep.com
