EAST LANSING – When Michigan State co-defensive coordinator Mike Tressel envisions Drake Martinez on the field, he sees a strong-side linebacker with the speed of Taylor Martinez — the former Nebraska quarterback and Drake’s older brother — and a very different demeanor.

“I mean he has a killer instinct blitzing, he wants to take your head off,” Tressel said of Martinez, a junior-college transfer from Laguna Beach, Calif., who signed with MSU on Wednesday. “He’ll flat-out tell you, and I hope Taylor would confirm this, ‘Oh, coach, I beat Taylor in a race.’ And Taylor, if you saw him running up and down the sideline on us two years ago, that’s as fast an offensive player as I’ve seen — I got whiplash watching him run down the sideline.
