EAST LANSING – Thursday was unofficially Redshirt Day at the Breslin Center, with Michigan State coach Tom Izzo going through various players who could have had one this year.

Izzo “really, really” wanted to redshirt freshman forward Marvin Clark this season, he said, but Javon Bess was out with a broken foot to start the season. Now Bess is struggling after his surgery and multiple ankle sprains, though Izzo has no plans to shut him down and is hoping extra rest this week will help. Cleveland State transfer Bryn Forbes would have benefited from sitting out this season, Izzo allowed, but he received an NCAA waiver and the Spartans (15-7, 6-3 Big Ten) need his 9.8 points and 29.2 minutes a game. - Read more at Freep.com
