Video: Nick Saban unleashes on the unauthorized “Saban: The Making of a Coach”

Nick Saban will forever be linked to the Michigan State football program. From the hard-hitting Rose Bowl winning defense he masterminded under George Perles in the 1980’s; to his return to East Lansing in 1995 as head coach; to his volatile departure to LSU on the eve of the 2000 Citrus Bowl – the name Nick Saban will always be discussed in Michigan State football lore.

And while Saban has had most of his greatest success in the SEC at LSU and now Alabama, there is no doubt that his time at MSU is a part of the new unauthorized biography, Saban: The Making of a Coach, written by Monte Burke. It also should not be a surprise that anything unauthorized having to due with Nick Saban would ignite the response from Saban. As Chris Vannini of reports:

I’m going to make a statement about something, because I thought you would surely ask. So this will be the last time this ever gets talked about. No one needs to ever ask me, because I’m going to tell you to pull it up on your computer or Facebook or Twitter or whatever you do. I just want everybody to know that I’m opposed to an unauthorized biography, for anybody. I think that’s some person you don’t even know trying to profit by your story or somebody else’s story.

One of these days, when I’m finished coaching at Alabama, I’ll write an authorized book. There’s really only one expert on my life, and guess who that is. Me. There won’t be any misinformation, there won’t be any false statements, there won’t be any hearsay, there won’t be any expert analysis from somebody else. It’ll be the real deal. But I’m not really ready for that to happen.

“It’s a little amazing to me that the timing of all this is right before we’re starting camp. I just want everybody out there and all of our fans to know it’s not going to be a distraction to us, and it’s never going to get discussed. But since I’m not finished yet at Alabama, we’re not writing any books yet. When we decide to write an authorized book, it will have the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. That’s OK. Thank you.
