VIDEO REWIND: Sanchez Struggles as Tigers lose to Phillies, 8-5
Today at Comerica Park, Odubel Herrera and Peter Bourjos went downtown off Anibal Sanchez, to help the Philadelphia Phillies grab an 8-5 win in the finale of their three-game series with Detroit. The Tigers had won eight of nine, including the first two games of this set, but Herrera’s three-run dinger gave the visitors a 5-1 lead in the fourth.
Philly starter, Aaron Nola, picked up his 4th win of the season. Meanwhile, Phillies’ closer, Jeanmar Gomez, earned his major league-leading 17th save in 18 trips.
Sanchez (3-6) allowed three earned runs and eight hits in six-plus innings. He has allowed at least four runs in each of his last five starts.
A bright spot for the Tigers was leadoff man and centerfielder, Cameron Maybin, who collected 2 hits, 2 runs and an RBI in the loss.
The Tigers (23-23) have a travel day tomorrow before beginning a weekend series versus Oakland on Friday.
