MSU’s Bubba Smith named 75th anniversary All-American by Football Writers Association of America

Late, legendary Michigan State defensive end Bubba Smith was named to the Football Writers Association of America 75th Anniversary All-America team, the organization announced today.
Smith, who starred at MSU from 1964-66, spearheading a national title in 1965 and No. 2 final ranking in 1966, was a third-team selection. The FWAA, founded in 1941, has been picking an All-America team since 1944, making it the second-longest continuously selected team in major college football.
Smith was a first-team All-American by nine different selectors as a senior, and he was the No. 1 overall pick in the 1967 NFL draft, going to the Baltimore Colts. He passed away in 2011 at age 66. - Read more at Freep.com
